A 57-year-old Canton woman is in police custody after a shooting early Tuesday in Rochester Hills, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
According to the department, deputies responded at about 7:38 a.m. Tuesday to a residence at the 400 block of Sandalwood Drive for a report of a man who had been shot. When deputies arrived, they found a 54-year-old man who had been shot in the stomach and groin area. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to Sheriff's officials.
According to the department, the man's girlfriend had shot him with a handgun and fled the scene in a dark-colored SUV. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office dispatch center received a call later in the morning from a man who said he was with the woman at a strip mall in the area of Bywater and Union Lake Road in Commerce Township. Sheriff's officials arrived at the scene and took the woman into custody, handing her over to detectives who are handling the ongoing investigation. The woman did not have a weapon in her possession at the time of her arrest.
