Trio Crashed Car Into Bank, Then Ran Away and Reported It Stolen, Police Say

The incident happened early Tuesday in Rochester Hills.

A man mistook a bank driveway for the road his friend lived on and crashed his Toyota Solaris into the brick wall of the bank before walking with his two passengers to a home nearby to reported the car stolen, s deputies report.

No one was seriously injured in the Tuesday morning crash, which happened at on Rochester Road.

Deputies said they received a call from a 23-year-old Rochester Hills man at 2:15 a.m. reporting that his Solaris had been stolen from . When the man called, he said he was at a friend's house in the 600 block of Lexington Street.

In the meantime, deputies had noticed a car that had crashed into the bank, which is located near Lexington Street about a half-mile from Hamlin Pub.

"As the deputy entered the parking lot for a closer look, he saw that a 2005 Toyota Solaris had driven across the lawn of the bank, knocked over a tree and crashed through the exterior security wall that surrounds the bank building," stated a report from Detective Ray White at the Rochester Hills sheriff's substation.

According to the report, when a deputy arrived at the Lexington address, the man maintained that his car had, in fact, been stolen. After being told where his car was found, the man then admitted he had crashed the car, the report stated.

The man, who had been drinking, was carrying a small bag of marijuana, the report stated. He was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

Both passengers, a 27-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from Rochester Hills, were found to each have two outstanding arrest warrants; they were cited for failing to respond to the warrants, the report stated. The woman, who was carrying a drug pipe, was also cited for possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the report.

All were offered medical treatment and declined, the report stated.
