Rochester Police Seek Men Accused of Stealing Backpack

Two men, estimated to be between 18-21 years old, are sought in Nov. 4 incident.

Rochester Police are seeking information about two men involved in a backpack theft from a vehicle.

According to the department, officers were dispatched at about 7:43 a.m. on Nov. 4 to an area near University and Pine for a report of two men stealing a backpack from a Rochester woman's vehicle who were running north from the location toward the Paint Creek Trail.

The woman then drove to the police station, where she told an officer she had pulled over on University near Pine to check her driver's side tires. The woman told police when she was looking at her tires, she heard a noise, looked up and saw two men standing near the passenger door of her car. She told police one man opened her passenger door and grabbed her black leather backpack containing cash, a credit card, several pieces of identification and cosmetics. The woman told police the men then ran north from the location.

She described one man as white, between 18-21 years old, clean-shaven with a black hoodie pulled over most of his face and wearing blue jeans and sneakers. She described the second man as white, between 18-21 years old with a dark blue or black hoodie pulled over most of his face and wearing blue jeans and sneakers. 

An officer checked the area where the incident reportedly occurred, but was not able to find the two men. No witnesses were available. Anyone with information about the identity of the two men is asked to contact Rochester Police at (248) 651-9621.
