Rochester Hills Man Arrested on Weapons, Drug Charges

Brandon Scott Knight, 26, is charged with possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, among other charges.

received an anonymous tip Thursday evening from a caller who said a man with two handguns and a military duffel bag containing narcotics was staying at in Rochester Hills, according to a press release from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The caller also alleged the suspect was preparing to rob a rival drug dealer who owed him a large sum of money, according to the report.

Deputies responded to the tip and located the suspect, 26-year-old Rochester Hills resident Brandon Knight, at the nearby gas station at Crooks Road and Starr Batt Drive. Deputies searched the man but did not find any weapons or drugs, according to the report.

Deputies then used a K-9 unit to track the suspect's path from the hotel to the gas station, during which they found a military duffel bag concealed in a nearby bush and a semi-automatic handgun underneath a vehicle, according to the report.

Police also found the following items inside the duffel bag:

  • Marijuana (125 grams)
  • Prescription medications, including: 93 Vicodin pills, 32 Oxycotin pills, 18 Xanax pills, 27 Adderall pills and 57 unidentified tablets
  • $1,251 in cash
  • Cellular phone
  • Multiple pieces of gold jewelry
  • Two masks
  • Digital scale and packaging material
  • Items linking the bag to the suspect, including a bible

Knight, who was uncooperative and denied knowledge of the guns and drugs during an interview with police, was arrested and taken to Oakland County Jail, according to the report. He was arraigned April 8 and charged with:

  1. One count of delivery/manufacture of marijuana (a 4-year felony)
  2. Two counts of possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony (a 2-year felony)
  3. One count of felonious assault with a weapon (a 4-year felony)

Additional charges are being sought for possession of numerous prescription medications, according to the sheriff's office.

Knight’s bond was set at $50,000; his next court date has not yet been scheduled.
