Rochester Toddler Dies After Being Struck by Car in Orion Driveway

The incident happened Saturday on Pine Tree Road.

A 1 1/2-year-old Rochester girl died Saturday after a car backed over her in an Orion Township driveway.

A 42-year-old Orion Township man was backing a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe down a driveway on Pine Tree Road at 11 a.m., according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office. The little girl had moved behind the vehicle; the man did not see her and struck her, according to the release.

The girl was transported to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 12:16 p.m., the news release stated. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, the news release stated.

Pine Tree Road is between Joslyn and Lapeer roads near Lake Orion. There is an elementary school on the road.

This is why all cars should have back up sensors and alerts..... especially the large SUVs. You just cannot see what is behind you. I feel so sad for all involved.

In addition to the obvious prayers and condolences for the parents of the child, I can not image the grief and guilt this accident will cause for the driver, who most likely knew the girl.

Hugo... the road, bridge, road right of way: The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC)... theRead More aesthetic black fence... Rochester Hills... let's assume there waiting for an insurance claim to go through or debating who pays. Thanks for your post. You could call the Mayor, but he is in Istanbul Turkey... looking over some plans for a new shopping mall they want to build in an historic park. Makes perfectly good sense this is the same Mayor who supported tearing down a historic house on Rochester Road to build a new strip mall... and turning Office Research Technology zoning into a Wal-Mart.

Yes I have been wondering too...I am going to use the RCOC website and see if they will respond
