Police Think They've Broken a Link in Detroit Tobacco Smuggling Ring

Officials haven't released the name of the Rochester Hills man who was arrested in connection with the suspected ring.

A Rochester Hills man police think is part of a large tobacco smuggling ring in the Detroit area was arrested and $43,000 in untaxed cigars were seized from a Sterling Heights storage unit police said may be tied to the operation.

Officers with the Michigan State Police aren’t releasing the identity of the man they arrested, but said he’s believed to be part of the tobacco crime ring, the Oakland Press reports.

Several brands of cigars were seized the raid.

It’s illegal in Michigan to possess, acquire, transport or sell any quantity of untaxed tobacco products.
