Police Chase After Alleged Assault on Officer Ends With Crash, Arrests

Driver accused of assault on Shelby Township officer, fleeing police.

A police chase that began in Shelby Township on Monday ended with a crash in Rochester Hills and the arrest of the vehicle's driver and passenger, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

According to the department, Oakland County Sheriff's units were called upon to assist Shelby Township Police with a vehicle traveling northbound on Rochester Road near Hamlin Road, whose driver was accused of a felony assault on a Shelby Township officer, in addition to having several outstanding warrants.

Sheriff's deputies followed the man through Rochester toward Walton and Livernois in Rochester Hills, where the driver crashed his vehicle and fled on foot. Shelby Township officers and Oakland County deputies were able to subdue the man with a Taser after a short foot chase and Shelby Township Police took both the driver and his passenger into custody.

The driver of another vehicle involved in the collision suffered minor airbag injuries, Sheriff's officials said. Shelby Township Police are continuing to investigate the incident. 

The driver was identified as a 27-year-old Harrison Township man and his passenger is a 25-year-old Clinton Township woman.
