Crime Report: Emagine Trash Catches Fire; Residents Report Thefts

The following information for June 29-July 5 was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Substation in Rochester Hills. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Emagine trash on fire

The Rochester Hills Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon to a 911 call from an employee who said the theater's external trash compactor was on fire, according to a sheriff's office report.

The fire "started from an external source," though the exact cause is unknown, according to the report. The Fire Department extinguished the fire.

Larcenies reported

Several incidents of larceny were reported to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office substation in Rochester Hills over the long weekend:

  • Resident discovers cooler of Budweiser stolen from his locked vehicle: A resident in the 1600 block of Devonwood reported Wednesday that someone had smashed the window of his vehicle and stolen a cooler full of Budweiser beer, according to the sheriff's office report. The vehicle was parked in front of the resident's home.
  • Lifetime Fitness employee's car (almost) broken into during shift: A employee called police after discovering someone had attempted to enter her vehicle while she was at work. The individual responsible managed to pry the locked door open – but not all the way, according to the sheriff's office report. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.
  • Resident discovers items missing from his garage. A resident in the 1000 block of Kingsview Street reported Wednesday that someone had taken two Razor scooters, a leaf blower, a weed trimmer and hedge trimmers from his garage between June 20-26, according to a sheriff's report. There are no suspects at this time.
  • Resident's radar detector, CDs and change stolen from vehicle: A resident in the 2100 block of Highsplint Drive reported several items missing from his vehicle June 26. The items were taken during the night; there are no suspects at this time, the sheriff's report said.

Two get drunken driving tickets

Two drivers were issued tickets for operating while intoxicated:

  • Deputies pulled over a silver Mazda in the Starbucks parking lot at Auburn and Rochester roads early Friday after observing the vehicle swerving. The 23-year-old driver admitted having consumed "two margaritas and a bottle of Heinekin" in downtown Rochester, according to the sheriff's report. He blew a 0.139 on the preliminary Breathalyzer test, well above the legal limit of 0.08, and was ticketed for operating while intoxicated.
  • Deputies pulled over another driver just before 4 a.m. Friday near Rochester and Avon roads after he was observed driving in the center of Avon Road. When pulled over, the deputy smelled "a strong odor of intoxicants coming from his breath," according to the report. The driver was given a preliminary Breathalyzer test and blew a 0.193, more than twice the legal limit. He was arrested and ticketed for operating while intoxicated; he also was ticketed for "under 21 consume" and "improper lane use," according to the report.
