Pit Bull Bites Off Part of Rochester Man's Tongue

Sheriff's officials: Dog bit man when he stuck tongue out in attempt to befriend pet.

A pit bull bit off part of a Rochester man's tongue Wednesday when he stuck it out while face to face with the dog in an attempt to befriend the pet, according to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.

The 33-year-old man, who was visiting a friend in Pontiac, was treated at McLaren Hospital in Pontiac, the report indicated. The dog is believed to have swallowed the severed portion of the man's tongue, according to the report.

Sheriff's officials said it was the second biting incident involving the dog within the past four months. An Oakland County animal control officer was notified and responded to the scene. The officer ordered the dog quarantined for the next 10 days as the investigation continues, the report indicated.
