Pet Pit Bull Attacks Woman; Rare Detroit Tigers Cuff Links Stolen

Woman attacked by pet pit bull

A Rochester Hills woman reported being attacked by her own pit bull last week. She told sheriff's deputies she was sitting at her computer inside her Oakridge Drive home when the dog bit her on her right bicep and then again on her left forearm.

She put the dog into a closet until deputies arrived. Sheriff's deputies said as soon as they got near the closet the dog began to "growl and bark aggressively."

Animal control officers removed the dog and the woman was treated and released at Crittenton Hospital.

Jewelry, including rare cuff links, reported stolen

A family in the 3600 block of Walnut Brook family reported more than $30,000 in jewelry, including a rare, 14-karat gold pair of Detroit Tigers cuff links, were stolen from the home last Thursday or Friday. Sheriff's deputies said they discovered pry marks on a living room window. The missing jewelry also included a $12,000 Tiffany platinum diamond ring.

Thefts at Buckle

Two shoppers at at the Village of Rochester Hills were arrested and released on Friday after workers there caught them attempting to take clothing, according to sheriff's reports.

An Independence Township woman was caught attempting to steal a tan tank top. A store manager told deputies the woman admitted to stealing the shirt by putting it in her purse while inside the store's dressing room. The tank top's value was $38.

Also that day a Lapeer man was caught attempting to steal a $135 pair of jeans. A store manager told deputies the man put the jeans on under his own jeans and attempted to leave the store.

Among other reports released Tuesday:

  • An Oxford Township man told sheriff's deputies someone stole a North Face backpack, a calculator, laptop, hard drive, GPS unit and sunglasses from his Dodge Stratus parked outside Antoniou's Pizza on Friday night. Sheriff's deputies discovered no signs of forced entry, though the owner said he may have left the car unlocked.
  • A resident in the 1700 block of Grandview Drive reported someone threw a rock through the window of the driver's side sliding door of his Dodge Caravan on Saturday night. Nothing was found missing.
  • A resident in the 1400 block of Sylvan Circle discovered a bike missing from the living room of her apartment on Sunday. She told sheriff's deputies the front door was left unlocked overnight.
  • A resident in the 3900 block of Hidden Creek Court resident reported the rear window of his Plymouth Neon broken out with a rock. He discovered the damage Sunday afternoon.
