Man Assaults Deputy After Crashing into Trash Cans, Police Say

A 19-year-old man was arrested after Tuesday night incident in Rochester Hills.

A 19-year-old Rochester Hills man is being held at the Oakland County Jail after reportedly running his vehicle into trash cans and then assaulting an 's deputy who caught him.

The incident happened Tuesday night near Beechcrest and Thornberry roads, off Adams Road south of Auburn Road. According to a sheriff's department report, deputies responded to reports of a "vehicle hitting trash cans" in the area. They found the suspected vehicle and then attempted to question the man inside, the report stated.

"Deputies smelled intoxicants on the subject and requested the male submit to a preliminary breath test," the report stated. "The male suddenly assaulted one of the deputies then fled on foot."

The man was located shortly after and the deputy was not injured, according to the report.
