The incident happened Saturday night at a home on Auburn Road.

A 6-year-old Rochester Hills girl was hospitalized Saturday night after a pit bull bit her in the face and thigh.

According to a report from the , the girl was conscious and breathing but bleeding and in "severe pain" when deputies responded to the home in the 1000 block of West Auburn Road around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The homeowner told sheriff's deputies the pit bull was a rescue dog. The girl was transported to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak; Rochester Patch was awaiting an update on her condition Sunday.

Oakland County Animal Control removed the dog from the home, according to the sheriff's report.

What kind of idiot brings a "rescue" pit bull into a home where there are children? Rescue dogs account for at least 50% of the serious attacks in the US and no rescue dog should ever be trusted around a child. Additionally, if this pit bull had been outdoors -- where dogs belong -- this little girl wouldn't be in the hospital in severe pain and scarred for life!

Did Patch cover the attempt at pit bull legislation in Rochester Hills within the past couple of years? I thought there had been discussion on here, but I couldn't find it.

"rescue dogs" are not known for 50% of attacks on humans - where did you find these statistics or do you liek to make up facts?
There is no such breed as a "pit bull" - that is a slang term used to describe any dog that has been taught to fight another dog in a "pit". I am sure the shelter or rescue would not re-home any breed of dog that has been known to be taught to fight in a pit. All dogs breeds can cause harm to a young child - young children should NEVER be left unattended with ANY kind of pet! And pets new to a family need an adjustment period, they musut be slowly integrated into the new family until their behaviors are learned and their place in the social structure of the family is established And they should be spayed or neutered to eliminate hormones that effect behavior. This situation in this article is very sad and I hope the little girls heels quickly.

There are two rescue dogs in my house. One is a Pit. The other was brought in when my brother was only a couple years old. We had no issues with either. Dogs are also not bred to be outdoors all the time. The ones that are have to have appropriate shelter. My pit is easily excitable, and he plays rough with my dad, but he knows that if he's rough with my brother or I, he's in trouble. All you have to do is say, "ow" and he stops and backs up and makes sure you're okay. We don't know what happened. The 6 year old could have been playing with him, and he got a little rowdy.

What a moron to take a rescue pit with a 6 year old at home. A rescue dog of any size or strength is a potential danger to children period. Sure, some will argue they've seen and done successful rescues of strange dogs....blah blah blah. My child's safety is simply not worth the risk and it is not the same as raising a dog from puppy age.

I didn't see a picture but any dog bite the media always claims pit when 9 times out of 10 its a different breed all together ...i feel for the child and the parents should never leave small children alone with ANY DOG!!!
I love all animals April 10, 2012 at 11:08 am
U obivously HATE dogs +YOURSELF !!!! As for the little girl I wish you the best . I also just rescued a pitbull + he is so loving . He was shot 5 times, all they want is attention just like any human creature . I have had more problems with a small dog trying to attack
Patricia Kane April 10, 2012 at 11:26 am
"A rescue dog of any size or strength is a potential danger..." NOT TRUE. Our 120 lb
rescue dog did programs at the local school with first graders, and then pre-school and kindergarten...we have had (and have) the pleasure of living with only rescued dogs...A pedigreed dog, a rescue dog, all dogs require an owner to "know" the dog. ALL dog ownership involves supervision, training, and responsibility. A rescue dog is no more a problem than that pedigreed on line $900.00 dog flown in to your neighbor who just had to go on line to a "reputable" breeder and buy. You need to know your dog. Raising a dog from a puppy does not guarantee the dogs temperament or personality. All dogs, just as all living creatures and beings have the potential to be dangerous. The newspapers are full of "homo sapiens" at all ages, especially young ones, that are a threat and dangerous.

PIt bulls are a real breed of dog. I would not want to own this breed of dog knowing they have a higher potential than others to harm humans - either my family or someone else's. Human life is far more important to me. There are so many other great breeds out there that are not known for harming people. I don't see the point of owning one of these dogs. I, too, wonder what happened to the legislation to ban pit bulls.

Pit Bull don't belong outdoors anymore than any other dog they are family pets and any dog no matter what breed rescued or not will bite if the child or adult or other dog or cat did something to make the dog bite ...EDUCATE BEFORE HATE .... you are like Kelly Ripa looking at the WRONG END OF THE LEASH
