Fire Department Releases Photos From Roofing Company Blaze

Smoke cloud from Thursday afternoon fire could be seen across region.

An asphalt kettle used to heat roofing tar likely caused a fire at a roofing company Thursday in Rochester Hills.

The , assisted by Rochester and Auburn Hills firefighters, responded to the blaze that happened around 3:45 p.m. Thursday at T. F. Beck Company Industrial Roofing on Devondale Road near Auburn Road.

A cloud of smoke that could be seen for at least 10 miles in all directions rose from the burning building. The fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes, said Rochester Hills Fire Chief Ron Crowell. Crews remained on scene into the evening hours, and the Oakland County Hazmat Team also responded. There was no contamination to the area, Crowell said.
