Fata, who lives in Oakland Township, is charged with deliberately misdiagnosing patients and unnecessarily administering chemotherapy to patients in remission as part of an elaborate Medicare fraud scheme.
The oncologist operated Michigan Hematology Oncology P.C., in Rochester Hills and six other Metro Detroit communities.
He is currently set to remain in federal custody until Tuesday, WXYZ-TV reported.
Detroit federal Judge Sean Cox will hold a hearing on the case on Tuesday.
The FBI last week appealed Magistrate David Grant's ruling that Fata could be released under house arrest with electronic monitoring provided he surrender his passport and not have contact with any of his 1,200 patients. District Judge David Lawson upheld the magistrate's ruling on Thursday.
