Rochester Hills Men Fought, Then Staged Bloody Scene, Police Say

A 26-year-old Rochester Hills man is in jail after allegedly assaulting another man. The two blamed their injuries on a masked assailant, but then admitted making it up, police said.

's deputies responded to the 1800 block of Village Green Boulevard Sunday morning for a report of a person screaming.

Upon arrival, they discovered two men – a 25-year-old and a 26-year-old, both of Rochester Hills – with facial injuries. There was blood on the floors and walls at the scene, according to the report.

The men, who were transported to POH Regional Medical Center, said "an unknown male wearing a mask broke in through a small window and attacked them," according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Deputies discovered a large kitchen knife on a coffee table.

According to the news release, deputies observed that the crime scene appeared to be staged and interviewed neighbors.

When Detective John Cummings interviewed the two men, both admitted they had been fighting each other, according to Cummings. "The alleged assailant reportedly attacking them with a knife was made up and false," according to the news release.

Police say the 26-year-old Rochester Hills man responsible for the fight was taken to Oakland County Jail on charges of domestic assault after being treated for his injuries. The man also has an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

The 25-year-old Rochester Hills man was released after being medically cleared.
