Crime Blotter: Theft from Homes, Stores, Cars Reported

Home invasions happen on the same day last week.

A man was alarmed, literally, when an unknown suspect attempting to break into his home triggered the alarm system, according to an Oakland County Sheriff's Office report.

The man disarmed the system from his master bedroom upstairs, but when he inspected the first floor, he found that an exterior door had been pried open with a tool and was ajar several inches. He called 911, and sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the home in the 3800 block of Sleepy Fox Drive at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday.

The man told deputies that he had reported another home invasion in late January; he said thousands of dollars worth of electronics were stolen then.

This time, the report said, the security system deterred any theft.

Alleged home invader steals game consoles, leaves flat-screen TV

A man returned to his home in the 1400 block of Oakbrook on Wednesday to find the patio door cracked open an inch, the blinds moved aside and his PlayStation and Xbox game consoles with the controllers missing, according to a sheriff's department report.

A flat-screen TV and laptop in the upstairs bedroom were not touched. Some clothes were thrown on the closet floor, and a cooling fan used for the PlayStation was sitting on the bed, but those were the only other items out of place, the report stated.

Deputies were called to the home; no footprints were found in the snow by the patio door, and the dusty television stand revealed no fingerprints, the report stated. Neighbors were questioned about any suspicious activity in the area.

Cologne caper caught at K-Mart

Loss-prevention officers at saw a man cut open the packaging of a $40 bottle of Ecko cologne and place it into his pocket Feb. 16, a sheriff's report revealed.

This is not an original crime; a few weeks ago.

After standing in line while his wife paid for her items, the man passed all security checkpoints before he was escorted back into the store, the report stated.

The man was issued a ticket for retail fraud in the third degree.

Fresh bank bills stolen from unlocked car

A woman withdrew an unknown sum of money from her bank Feb. 16, intending to deposit it into a bank closer to her home, but the money was stolen from her car before she could do so, according to a sheriff's department report.

The woman had left her Pontiac Grand Am unlocked in the parking lot of when she went in to buy a drink and talk to the owner. When she returned, the envelope of money that was sitting on top of her purse had disappeared, the report stated.
