Burning Cigarette Causes Truck Fire at Rochester Hills Walmart

No one was injured in the Saturday night fire.

An employee of the Rochester Hills went out to his pickup for a cigarette break Saturday night, and after he went back inside the store, the smoldering cigarette caught fire inside the truck, investigators say.

The Rochester Hills Fire Department and the Oakland County Sheriff's Office extinguished the fire, which happened around 9:40 p.m. Saturday in the Walmart parking lot. According to a sheriff's office report, a cigarette burning inside the truck's ashtray ignited the dashboard; investigators described the smell at the scene as that of burning or melting plastic.

No one was injured, and the truck was towed away.
