Boy, 3, Hospitalized in Near-Drowning in Rochester Hills

Boy reportedly OK after near-drowning in swimming pool.

A three-year-old Rochester Hills boy was responsive and speaking Saturday at Royal Oak Beaumont after nearly drowning in a pool earlier in the day.

The Rochester Hills Fire Department and Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded Saturday to the 600 block of E. Nawakwa Avenue after a near-drowning in a swimming pool at the residence, according to a Sheriff's report.

When crews arrived, the boy was breathing, alert and covered with vomit.

Witnesses at the home told deputies the boy was wearing a life jacket for the day and at some point it was taken off while he was on the pool deck, the report indicated. An adult in the pool then noticed the boy face-up and unresponsive in the water, according to the report.

The adult pulled the child out of the water, and one adult called 911 while others administered CPR on the boy, according to the report. The boy regained consciousness and began breathing. He was taken to Royal Oak Beaumont and kept overnight for monitoring. Child Protective Services was notified about the incident, but it is unclear if any charges will be filed in the incident.
