Brookfield Academy Student Named Michigan State Geographic Bee Semifinalist

Brookfield Academy, 1263 S. Adams Road, Rochester Hills, is pleased to announce that Ajay Sumanth, son of Sumanth Gurumurthy & Chitra Sumanth, has been selected by the National Geographice Society as a semifinalist in the 26th annual Michigan State Geographic Bee. The competition will be held at The Fetzer Center at Western Michigan University on Friday, April 4, 2014, sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. After winning on the school level, Ajay took a qualifing national test. The National Geographic then selected the top scoring 100 individuals from all 50 states to compete in the state competition. The state winner will receive $100, the "Complete National Geographic on DVD" and a trip to Washington, D.C., to represent Michigan in the National Geographic Bee held at the Geographic Society headquarters on May 19-21, 2014. The national winner will receive a $50,000 college scholarship and an all-expense paid trip to Galapagos Islands.
