The "Hidden Gems" of Disney World Resort Hotels: Part Two

Welcome to the final post in my multi-week series on the "hidden gems" of the Walt Disney World theme parks and resort hotels.  Today, I share some more of my favorite well-kept secrets and little details that make the Disney World resorts so special.  You can find part one here.

Kona Island (Disney's Polynesian Resort): Conveniently located on the monorail loop, Disney's lush Polynesian Resort is the perfect place to take a break from the Magic Kingdom. Immediately upon entering the resort from the monorail, you'll find Kona Island, a stand-alone coffee shop (the perfect place to grab coffee and a pastry on your way to the park). But here's what makes this place truly spectacular. In the evening, it becomes a fun Sushi Bar--making this a perfect prelude to a parent's night out!!

The Solarium (Disney's Beach Club Resort):  Tucked away in an easily-missed alcove at the end of the Breezeway, this is the PERFECT place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee before hitting the parks or to unwind in the late afternoon before heading out to dinner.

The "Flag Family" At the Wilderness Lodge - Each morning, a family is chosen to accompany a Cast Member to the rooftop and take part in a flag-raising ceremony (the next "hidden gem" of the onsite Disney resort hotels). Want to be considered for the job? Ask to be put on the list when you check-in at the Lodge!

Honorable Mention

1. The lush gardens at Disney's Polynesian Resort

2. The erupting geyser at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

3. The observation deck at Disney's Animal Kingdom

The best part of all these resort hotel "hidden gems" is that, with the exception of the "flag family" at the Wilderness Lodge, you don't need to be staying at these resorts to enjoy them!!  In fact, you don't even need to be staying onsite.  So, take some time out of your theme park touring to enjoy the Disney resorts---you won't regret it!
