Are You Being Followed? Better To Be Safe Than Sorry

Have you ever had that creepy feeling that someone was following you?

Perhaps while walking to your car in a dark parking lot. You listen to the footsteps that stop when you stop. Like most of us you panic, your heart starts pounding as you race to your car, keys in hand knowing that at any moment you could be faced with an attacker or worse.

You try to remember the self defense tactics that you learned at the local woman's club, "keep your car key strategically placed between your thumb and your index finger" it can be used to fend off your foe. You laugh at yourself after you discover that it was nothing, just an old woman making her way to the bus stop. When you finally get strapped in to your seat, you lock your doors, hang your head and sigh. Relieved that nobody witnessed your silly ranting, you head home still shaking, eager to put this behind you. But you can't. 

There are men, women and children who are faced with real life situations just like this. Some have a laughable ending and some are forced to deal with their greatest fear, being assaulted. Statistics show that most of us are not prepared when faced with an attack. And, there are those of us who have taken steps to deal with our assailants. 

Now that I have your attention, are you prepared? What would you do if you found yourself facing an unwanted attacker? If you answered, " I don't know what I would do", you're not alone. I can tell you that like of thousands of citizens, I carry a concealed hand gun. Partly because of my law enforcement and security background, however, it's in my DNA to protect myself and others. Note: Carrying any weapon is serious and not to be taken lightly. This is why Michigan mandates that you take the necessary training prior to owning a hand gun. Further, I am in no way advocating the use of hand guns as a form of self defense. I am simply expressing my personal preference.
