Rochester to Light Up Tonight for Big, Bright Light Show and Lagniappe

Holiday spirit comes to Rochester as Lagniappe and the Big, Bright Light Show return Monday in downtown Rochester.

Those looking to brighten their holidays can get a chance to see downtown Rochester awash in bright, colorful lights with the return of the Big, Bright Light Show. The show kicks off tonight and runs 5 p.m.-midnight through Jan. 4, 2014.

The show will coat the buildings in downtown Rochester with more than 1 million glimmering, colorful holiday lights.

The Big, Bright Light Show is now entering its eighth season. The buildings of Main Street will be covered in “big, bright” lights beginning at the South Bridge and extending to University Drive.  Additionally, buildings on Fourth Street from Walnut to Water Street will be covered. These areas outside of the main drag of downtown were able to remain illuminated this year after a successful Kickstarter campaign by the Rochester Downtown Development Authority.

“The Big, Bright Light Show is holiday magic personified; it is something you have to see to believe,” stated Kristi Trevarrow, Executive Director of the Rochester DDA.  “This holiday tradition is one of a kind, and the perfect complement to the one-of-a-kind shopping experience one will find in downtown Rochester.”

The Big, Bright Light Show will debut today at 7 p.m. during the 41st annual Lagniappe celebration and will be illuminated from 5 p.m.-midnight through Jan. 5, 2014.  Most downtown shops are open Monday through Saturday through 9 p.m.
