5 Places Open on Christmas Day in Rochester

Malls, government offices and most businesses are closed Dec. 25, but there are still a few places that will be open around town.

If you end up forgetting a key ingredient for Christmas dinner (we hear butter is a hot item on Christmas day) or are looking to get out of the house, here are five places that are open on Christmas Day.

1. CVS

Most CVS stores are open Christmas Day, but there is no guarantee that you will be able to fill a prescription. CVS is the spot to pick up a holiday card, pet food or other must-have item when just about everything else is closed.

2. Walgreens

Walgreens will be open on Christmas Day. The store's number one seller on Christmas? Butter.

3. Starbucks

Starbucks is one of several national chains remaining open on Christmas Day. There's a decidedly different atmosphere: more laid back, quiet even, as folks read newspapers, pore over their laptops or sit quietly to savor the day.

4. 7-Eleven

The convenience store becomes the ultra spot for convenience on Christmas Day. On the way to Grandma's house, you can also pick up some last-minute items, from Advil to Gatorade. The 7-Eleven stores at 804 N. Main St. and 2688 S. Rochester Road are open 24 hours on Christmas Day. Forget to buy someone a gift? Grab a handful of Slim Jims and be a Christmas hero.

5. Movie Theaters

Many people make a trip to the movie theater on Christmas Day. Check out Emagine Rochester Hills, AMC 30 at 59/Mound or AMC Star Great Lakes Crossing for Christmas Day movie showtimes.

What's closed on Christmas

Most Rochester businesses are closed Dec. 25, as are government offices, banks, malls and the post office. As with other holidays, refuse collection will be delayed one day due to the holiday.

Most retailers will reopen Dec. 26 and are expecting one of the busiest shopping days of the year, particularly at Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Kmart and Meijer.
