New Ballot Proposal

We Voted for this...

MILLAGE PROPOSAL TO PROVIDE FUNDING TO PERMANENTLY PRESERVE GREEN SPACES AND NATURAL FEATURES WITHIN THE CITY OF ROCHESTER HILLS.
Shall the City of Rochester Hills permanently preserve natural green spaces, wildlife habitats and scenic views; protect woodlands, wetlands, rivers and streams; and expand the Clinton River Greenway and other trail corridors by funding the purchase of land and interests in land, and enable the City to seek matching grant funds by levying a new millage of up to 0.3 mills ($0.30 per $1000 of taxable value) for ten years, 2005 through 2014, inclusive. If approved, the estimated revenue the City will collect in the first year if the millage is authorized and levied in full is $1,020,593.
Yes_____ No _____

What we got was this... millions spent... to give to wealthy landowners and developers, to purchase, and take off the tax rolls... property the was non-developable to build on anyway... protected by the DNR and other various governmental agencies. Mayor Bryan K. Barnett could not have been happier... tax paid for gifts... millions of dollars to give back to those who have contributed to his political career.

New Ballot Proposal

Ballot Proposal (as prepared by John Staran) Proposal to Expand Permissible Uses of Green Space Millage At the September 13, 2005 Primary Election, City of Rochester Hills voters approved a Proposal to provide funding to permanently preserve green spaces and natural features within the City “by funding the purchase of land and interests in land, and enabling the City to seek matching grant funds by levying a new millage of up to 0.3 mills.” It is proposed to revise the permissible use of tax revenues derived from this millage to authorize it to be used to fund the protection, care and maintenance of green spaces and natural features owned, acquired or controlled by the City, in addition to funding the purchase of land and interests in land. Therefore, shall the permissible use of tax revenues derived from the green space millage be revised to authorize it to be used to fund the protection, care and maintenance of green spaces and natural features owned, acquired or controlled by the City, in addition to funding the purchase of land and interests in land? If approved, this proposal will not authorize any new or additional tax or renewal of any current tax.

What we are voting on now is... because we now have retained ownership of these non-developable swamps... we have become responsible for their well being... case in point... if you throw so much as a banana peel in a designated DNR wetland that is illegal dumping and someone has to clean it up... we own the swamps now and it's the taxpayers responsibility to keep them in their natural pristine condition. It's like pouring gasoline on the fire... the money is going to have to come from somewhere... vote YES and give them the flexibility to maintain our newly acquired swamps; that we as a city will only be allowed to only stare at... no joke... the DNR will not allow any activity beyond that!
