Books for a Cause: Barnes & Noble Aims to Help Charlotte's Wings Charity

Store to offer book drive for Rochester Hills charity.

Rochester Hills nonprofit Charlotte’s Wings and Barnes & Noble on Rochester Road are again joining forces to provide books to children in hospitals and hospice facilities throughout Michigan this holiday season.

“Charlotte’s Wings is very excited about continuing our partnership with the staff and customers of Barnes and Noble Rochester Hills this holiday season," Jennifer Buck, executive director of Charlotte's Wings said. "The Rochester-area community has always generously supported us and we are so appreciative of all that Barnes and Noble Rochester Hills is doing to continue that local support. We know the children in the care of Michigan’s hospitals and hospices this holiday season will be grateful for the books that this book drive will allow us to donate.”

By giving books, Charlotte’s Wings endeavors to bring sick children a smile, a dream, or an escape from an unfortunate reality. Whether a child is facing something as benign as tonsillitis or as severe as a terminal disease, a book can provide encouragement and comfort to a sick child during a challenging and frightening period.

You can help in giving the gift of comfort this season with the Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive throughout the months of November and December by purchasing a new book and donating it to Charlotte’s Wings. The book drive kicks off on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at the Rochester Hills store, located at 2800 S. Rochester Road. The evening will include an Elf on Shelf Story Time and Elf Adoption Event. This holiday tradition will take place in the Children’s Department on the Story Time Stage.

From Nov. 1 through Nov. 5, Charlotte’s Wings will also have the opportunity to receive 20-25 percent of each sale designated to their cause through a special book fair. Those interested can participate by buying a book on the Charlotte’s Wing Wish List to donate or purchase some items on their own holiday shopping list while also helping with the cause. Charlotte’s Wings Book fair ID# 11213477 will be valid at any Barnes and Noble retail store, as well as online. The number will be at each of the store's registers, so those interested in donating can tell the bookseller that their purchase is for the Charlotte’s Wings Book Fair. For more information about Charlotte’s Wings and the work they do, visit the organization online at www.charlottes-wings.com.
