Big, Bright Light Show Passes $27,000 Kickstarter Goal

Campaign hits goal just before noon deadline.

Downtown Rochester's Big, Bright Light Show will stay fully lit this year, thanks to some eleventh-hour pledges toward its "Miracle of Fourth Street" Kickstarter campaign

The Rochester Downtown Development Authority had sought $27,000 in pledges to keep the outskirts of the downtown district lit for its Big, Bright Light Show. Citing reduced revenue, the DDA was faced with not illuminating the areas just outside of the main stretch of downtown.

With the Kickstarter campaign set to expire at noon today, however, several donors pushed the DDA over its goal, ensuring the Big, Bright Light Show will go on uncompromised.

"It just went over about five minutes ago," Rochester DDA Director Kristi Trevarrow said.

Trevarrow said some old sponsors came through at—quite literally—the eleventh hour to ensure the project hit its goal. If the effort fell short, according to Kickstarter's rules, it would fail to receive funding.

Trevarrow credited the generosity of donors and the downtown businesses who provided gift certificates and incentives for those who pledged donations.

"It's absolutely amazing," Trevarrow said. "We couldn't thank anyone enough."
