Rochester Symphony Orchestra Featuring Young Artist Competition Winner

It is with great pleasure that the Rochester Symphony
Orchestra will be featuring Young Artist Competition Winner Heather Gu,
13-year-old 8th grader, at the April 25 concert which begins at 8 p.m. in the
Adams High School Auditorium.



Heather started learning and playing piano and violin at the age of five. 
When she was 6 years old, she performed at Carnegie Hall in New York as a
winner of the World Piano Competition at Cincinnati, and the Grand-Prize winner
of the International Youth Piano Competition in Texas.  She has had
numerous notable performances and won many prizes, including making her
orchestral debut at age 10 with the Detroit Civic Orchestra.  Heather has
recently been named as the winner of the East Central Division Junior Piano
Performance Competition by the Music Teachers National Association becoming one
of the seven national finalists to compete across the U.S.  In addition,
she has won the Doreen Wessel Taylor Piano Award and received a scholarship
with honor from Tuesday Musicale of Detroit.  Heather is also an active
violin player and played with the DSO’s Civic Youth Symphony Orchestras and is
the first violinist in Boulan Park Middle School advanced orchestra.  In
addition to the music activities, she loves swimming and plays on the school
basketball and volleyball teams.  Heather is a straight A student and
enjoys reading, writing, studying science and mathematics.
