The Birmingham Optimist Club will be sponsoring a “New Optimists Welcomed” event on Jan. 16.

The members will be providing an informational session regarding the Optimist organization, and the Birmingham Club — who we are and what we do. This is open to the public for anyone interested in learning more about us and consider becoming a member.

Each year the Birmingham Club, a part of the 100+ Optimist Clubs in the Michigan District (www.michiganoptimists.org) is involved in a variety of community activities designed to “Bringing Out The Best In Kids!” Each club evaluates the needs of their community and creates projects that best serve the youth and the community at-large. In addition, Optimist Clubs actively participate in international programs (www.optimist.org) that focus on personal growth. Our Optimist International Oratorical and Essay contests provide an opportunity to win a college scholarship. Participants in our Junior Golf program have included many PGA professionals including Phil Michelson and Tiger Woods.

In today’s tumultuous world, the Optimist Mission is “By Providing Hope and a Positive Vision, Optimists Bring Out the Best in Kids!” The Birmingham Club is an active supporter of this mission, sponsoring these and many other programs to benefit the youth in Birmingham and the surrounding communities.

Please join us for complementary beverages and hors oeuvres and learn how you can provide a positive impression on your community and its youth. Remember, “It is easy to be optimistic but you must Learn How To Be An Optimist.
