UPDATE: Walton Road Work Delayed; Likely Start Wednesday in Rochester Hills

One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction during the project, which will be completed Aug. 12.

The Walton Boulevard construction project that was planned to begin today will be delayed, probably pushed to Wednesday.

The snow today, along with a forecast for more snow Tuesday, will delay the project, said Craig Bryson, spokesman for the Road Commission for Oakland County. The project is set to resurface Walton between the Rochester city border and an area just east of Adams Road.

When the project begins, traffic delays will be unavoidable for about four months, as one lane of traffic in each direction will often be closed. Motorists will still have access to all homes, schools, churches and businesses during the project, according to the road commission, which is managing the work.

The project involves the application of three inches of new asphalt to the stretch between Great Oaks Boulevard and about 750 feet east of Adams Road (near the Rochester Hills Fire Station).

The pedestrian crosswalks, crosswalk signals and traffic signals will also be upgraded.

The $2.8 million project will be performed by Ajax Paving Industries of Troy and will be paid for with $1.5 million in federal dollars, along with $1 million in Tri-Party Program funds (one-third funding from Oakland County, the Road Commission and Rochester Hills). The road commission will cover the additional $300,000.

The project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 12.
