Winter Storm to Hit Rochester Area Thursday Night

Update, 9 a.m. Thursday: The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for a 100 percent chance of snow in Rochester and Rochester Hills, mainly after 11 p.m. "Accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible," the weather service stated.

The snow is now expected to continue until Friday afternoon; a blustery Friday morning wind is also in the forecast, as is an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow. 

10 p.m. Wednesday: Ready for more snow? 

Forecasts call for between 4 and 8 inches in southeast Michigan starting Thursday night. According to a winter storm watch issued by the National Weather Service, a strengthening low pressure system will move into the southern Great Lakes region on Thursday, with the highest snow accumulations predicted along the I-69 corridor. 

The weather statement indicates that roads may become snow-covered and slippery, affecting the Friday morning commute. "Visibilities under one quarter mile will be possible Thursday night," according to the statement.

In Rochester and Rochester Hills, the high temperature is predicted to be 32 degrees on Thursday; the low is expected to be 30 degrees.
