Tienken Road Repaving to Begin Wednesday

Traffic will be limited to one way, eastbound, from Squirrel Road to the Rochester Hills border.

It's time to add another road project to our summer construction list.

This one is technically not in our cities: it's just across the border in the city of Auburn Hills. But it's likely to affect many traveling to and from Rochester and Rochester Hills over the next month.

Tienken Road from Squirrel Road in Auburn Hills to the Rochester Hills border just west of Adams High School will be repaved beginning this week.

The existing road will be removed, pulverized and compacted to build up the existing road base; then, the surface will be repaved.

Here's what you need to know before you head out.

  • Beginning Wednesday, travel on Tienken Road will be limited to one-way eastbound traffic.
  • The posted detour route is Tienken to Adams to Walton to Squirrel.

In his blog on the Auburn Hills city website, City Manager Peter Auger asks readers to "pardon our dust."

"We are attempting to make these improvements with the least amount of inconvenience, but we realize any construction has frustration for the normal driver," Auger writes. "Our recommendation would be to experiment before hand to find the best routes around the area. We hope you don’t wait till the last minute to look for alternative route, because that will be the day when you are late for an important meeting or to pick up the children.

"I wish there was a way to reconstruct these routes without the inconvenience, but we haven’t figured it out yet."

The Tienken Road project is one of several ongoing in the Rochester area. and when they are expected to be wrapped up.

http://rochester.patch.com/blog_posts/lets-propose-a-new-tienken-parkway Let's Propose a New Tienken Parkway Starting in 2013 Tienken Road, Livernois east to Sheldon Rd. construction engineer: Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) 877.858.4804, proposed start date: spring 2013, anticipated completion date: Fall 2013. This road improvement will permanently change the total character of northern Rochester Hills. I'm not in favor of what is proposed by the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC). In a nutshell their plan is all about big trucks, high speed cars and commuter traffic! Their plan is a 3 lane 50mph design speed, with occasional deceleration lanes which will widen the road to 4 and 5 lanes. Their plans also call for a massive unnecessary roundabout at the corner of Livernois Road and Tienken Road. Plus the expensive taking and destruction of homes and some business. We just spoke with Dan Brisson from the Auburn Hills roads department, who tells us they are hopeful this project will only take three weeks. Also, to clarify, the traffic will only be allowed EASTBOUND through the duration of the project.

I like the bumpy road the way it is. Keeps the speed of some of the drivers down. At least its only three weeks....

Rochester has become a not so fun place to live anymore.

I agree Todd. It's becoming way to high paced. Everyone is speeding..... everyone needs to slow down.
