Man Used Screwdriver to Pry Open Door of Ex-Girlfriend's Home, Police Say

It happened in Oakland Township on Friday night.

Authorities say a 52-year-old Madison Heights man used a screwdriver to pry open the door of an Oakland Township home Friday night.

Deputies from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office responded to the 1200 block of Eagles Nest, north of Buell Road and east of Rochester Road, at 10:46 p.m. Friday. Deputies had received a report of a "suspicious" vehicle parked in the area, according to a report. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a man walking in the area carrying a screwdriver in his pocket; he told deputies he used to live in a home on Partridge Court, which is near Eagles Nest, the report stated.

"This address there was checked and the door to the attached garage was found open with pry marks," the report stated. "This is the residence of the suspect's former girlfriend. She was contacted and indicated that the subject was not invited and was not expected."

The suspicious vehicle was registered to the man, according to the report. An evidence technician determined the paint on the screwdriver that the suspect was carrying was consistent with the paint on the door; also, a footprint found in the snow was consistent with the suspect's footwear, the report stated.

The man was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges.
