Spring Snowstorm Predicted; Accumulation Could Affect Monday Morning Commute

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, even though it's spring.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 3 a.m.-noon Monday, warning of "quickly accumulating snowfall" that could become heavy at times and affect the morning commute.

The intensity of this snowfall should allow for fast accumulations, with 1-3 inches of snow likely covering area roads, the advisory states. Snow accumulations will be the heaviest between the Ohio border and M-59, according to the warning.

In addition, winds are expected to gust up to 29 mph.

April snowstorms in Michigan are not common, but they're not unheard of, either. In fact, the area's largest recorded snowfall occurred in April — though more than 100 years ago. According to , the area's heaviest accumulation of snow fell on April 6, 1886 — 24.5 inches in 24 hours.
