Rochester This Weekend: Fly-Fishing, Farmers' Market and 5K for a Fallen Teacher

Here's your guide to Saturday and Sunday in Rochester and Rochester Hills.

There's plenty going on this weekend around town: Just check our Events calendar — it's full! Here are some of the highlights:

From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday you can tour the Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition at (competition tents are located at the corner of Adams and Walton.) One-hour tours are free and are for students interested in science, technology and math to areas of robotics, defense and the automotive industries.

The late was an avid runner who shared her love of running with her three children and students. This benefit run at has been organized in her honor. It includes a 5K competitive race and a 1-mile fun run/walk. Registration begins at 8 a.m.; the run begins at 9 a.m. All proceeds benefit the Health, Welfare and Education of the Jarrell Children fund.  Register ($20) or donate online here.

Join the Clinton River Watershed Council at the Kiwanis Pavilion in Rochester Municipal Park for family fun. Free snacks, minnow races, fly-casting demonstrations with Trout Unlimited, water crafts and T-shirt painting. 

Visit the from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday with your kids to learn about police officers and get a child identification kit, too. Kids should bring their bikes (and helmets) to participate in the bike rodeo.

Enjoy a date night in downtown Rochester while your kids have fun at . The drop-off "Parents Night Out" event is $35 per child (and $10 for each sibling). Pre-registration is required.

This week's vendor of the week is Breadwinner Bakery: all scones and muffins are $1 off from the Rochester bakery. Dozens of vendors will be selling everything from plants and flowers to produce from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
