Rochester's Main Street Set to Reopen This Week

Friday is the day: the road is scheduled to be open one lane in each direction.

Here's a good news way to start your Monday morning: Main Street is likely to reopen to traffic this week.

After a nine-week shutdown from University Drive to Second Street, the road is scheduled for a partial reopening on Friday. Traffic will be allowed on one lane in each direction.

Then the Main Street Makeover will continue: the total project is expected to last until November. When it is finished, the downtown road will have new crosswalks and streetscape features, among other amenities.

It's all part of the long-planned reconstruction of Rochester Road that is being done by the Michigan Department of Transportation in conjunction with the city of Rochester and the Downtown Development Authority.

During the construction, back alleys to shops and restaurants are open and the downtown parking is free.
