In Rochester Hills on Friday, was a fitting place to honor those who have served our country.
After all, the park on the corner of Livernois and Avon roads is, as Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett told a crowd of about 150 gathered there, a place inspired by veterans, built, funded and cared for by veterans, and ultimately, meant to honor our veterans.
Barnett, along with representatives of local veterans organizations, spoke at the hour-long ceremony, which featured the dedication of an Eagle Scout project completed by graduate Tanner Ellsworth. Ellsworth created a monument to Oakland County's Civil War veterans inside the park.
The ceremony also featured a special address by General William Hartzog, a four-star U.S. Army general.
