Rochester's Movies in the Moonlight is 'Great Entertainment'

Residents flock to the Farmers' Market parking lot for a free showing of "True Grit" Saturday evening.

Dark clouds couldn't keep hundreds of people from flocking to 3rd and Water streets in downtown Rochester Saturday evening for . 

Families, friends and couples soaked in the atmosphere while waiting for True Grit, the in this summer's Movies in the Moonlight series, to begin at dusk. Attendees brought their own blankets and chairs to sit on while enjoying a free movie outdoors in the parking lot.

Many people noted on how the experience is nostalgic, reminding them of watching movies in the drive-in when they were younger.

"I remember going to the drive-in in our pajamas and sitting in our car watching the movie," Brenda Nelson of Rochester said. "This is the closest thing we have to that and I love it."

Nelson said her family looks forward to attending the movies every summer and that they try to make it to all of them. Her husband Tom said it makes for a great family activity.

"This really is a flash back to when we were kids with the drive-ins," Jane Welmers of Oakland Township said. "It's great entertainment in a great atmosphere."

Both Welmers and Nelson were pleased to be spending their evening outdoors, noting the evening was beautiful. 

The next and final movie in this summer's series is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse; it will play July 30 at 9:15 p.m.
