Photo of the Day: The Snow Moon Shines Down on Rochester

Rochester Patch reader Christopher Oskoian captured this scene Tuesday night.

February's full moon — known as the "Snow Moon" — caused Rochester to stop and enjoy the view on Tuesday night.

Rochester Patch reader Christopher Oskoian captured this scene Tuesday night. "Picture doesn't do it justice," he wrote. "Couldn't get the whole effect of the beautiful color." The moon was photographed using a T2i 75-300mm lens.

The full moon in February is traditionally called the "Snow Moon" because the heaviest snows of the year often fall during this month, according to Space.com. The moon is also sometimes called the "Full Hunger Moon," because hunting is often difficult in February, making food scarce for ancient tribes.
