Pet Rescue: Dogs Given Away at Borden Park Might Have Parvo

New pet owners who took a woman up on her offer of a free puppy this week at Borden Park in Rochester Hills should see a veterinarian immediately, according to representatives from Mt. Clemens-based A Rejoyceful Animal Rescue.

The rescue posted to the "For the Love of Louie" Facebook group, which aids in the search for missing or found dogs, that it took in three puppies from a woman with two unwanted litters. According to the group, the woman said she had given away seven of the puppies during a book sale Tuesday at Borden Park.

According to the rescue, veterinarians checked the remaining puppies in the litter for the often-deadly parvovirus and tests came back positive. The puppies also were determined to have sarcoptic mange/scabies.

"Our pups are at a 24-hour vet clinic receiving around-the-clock care for this deadly virus and serious skin infestation," the group wrote. The group says it is willing to take in any of the dogs that had been picked up on Tuesday.
