Novelist Elmore Leonard to Speak at Oakland University on Wednesday

Novelist and screenwriter Elmore Leonard will visit Oakland University to talk about the writing life.

Leonard, who lives in Bloomfield, will be joined by his son, Peter Leonard, also a writer. They will discuss "The Family Business," all the novels, screenplays and television scripts they have written, and their experiences with Hollywood. 

Elmore Leonard is the author of more than 40 novels, including Get Shorty, Out of Sight and Killshot. He wrote Freaky Deaky, which became a movie starring Christian Slater that was filmed last year in parts of Rochester.

Earlier this month, Leonard received the National Book Foundation's Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, an honor given to luminaries such as Ray Bradbury, John Updike, Toni Morrison and Arthur Miller, according to a press release from OU.

Sponsored by the Creative Writing Program in Oakland's Department of English, this event will be held at Meadow Brook Theatre, 207 Wilson Hall on Oakland's campus. For an interactive map, visit oakland.edu/map.

Doors will open at 4:30 p.m., with refreshments available at 5 p.m. and the program beginning at 5:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
