Leaving Town for the Weekend?

Whether you're going "Up North" or heading elsewhere in the state, here's what you should know before you go.

We all love Rochester, but sometimes — especially in the summer — we find it's time to leave, if only for a weekend getaway.

For traveling throughout Michigan this weekend, here are a few things to know.

The weather

If you're heading waaaay north — as in Traverse City, forecasts from the National Weather Service call for a 30 percent chance of showers Saturday with a high near 86. Sunday is predicted to be mostly sunny and hot with a high near 91.

Gasoline

The price for one gallon of gasoline in the Detroit area was $3.78 today, down a few cents from last Friday. Last year at this time the price was $2.80 a gallon.

In Rochester Hills on Friday morning, gasoline prices ranged from $3.67 (at the Marathon on Auburn Road) to $3.95 (at the Shell station at Rochester and Avon roads), according to DetroitGasBuddy.com

The roads

Before you plan your best route out of town, know that southbound I-75 will be slow between Square Lake Road and Coolidge Road from 9 tonight to 9 a.m. Saturday because of a double lane closure.

There will be lane closures that are sure to slow traffic on eastbound and westbound M-59 from Crooks to Ryan roads starting tonight and continuing through Sunday night.

Westbound M-59 ramps to northbound and southbound I-75 are still closed.

For a complete list of lane closures (depending on where you are headed) visit www.Michigan.MDOT.gov.
