Kids Read 25,000 Hours in Global-Themed Summer Library Program

Grand finale celebration is planned for Saturday.

Kids in Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Township have turned a lot of pages this summer.

On Saturday, they will take a break and celebrate.

The hundreds of readers who participated in the s summer reading program logged more than 25,000 hours of reading and more than 28,000 points (about 7,000 hours worth of literacy activities) this summer.

Kids who participated received a reading chart to track their progress; incentive prizes included ice cream cone coupons, backpacks, luggage tags and tickets to win one of several grand prize rewards; those prizes will be awarded Saturday.

This year's theme was and featured special reading events that showcased books and reading all over the planet — from a "down under" Australian storytime to a puppet show focusing on ancient Chinese folklore.

Saturday's activities include:

  • in a yo-yo demonstration at 11 a.m.
  • at noon.
  • at 1 p.m.
  • at 2 p.m.
