It's Brooksie Race Day Across Rochester

The race route, the start times and how to find out when the roads re-open: we have everything you need to know about the Brooksie Way.

By the time you read this Sunday morning, the fifth-annual Brooksie Way 5K and Half-Marathon may well be under way.

The runners and walkers were set to start off from Meadow Brook Music Festival on the Oakland University campus at 8:05 a.m. That's the official start time for the half-marathon event; the 5K race will begin at 8:15 a.m.

It is the largest race in Oakland County, with 6,000 runners and walkers this year, and it will shut down parts of the northern half of Rochester Hills and part of downtown Rochester for half the morning.

Here's what you need to know, whether you're trying to watch the race and cheer on the runners or get across town for church or work or your child's sporting event.

  • Race route: The races begin and end on the OU campus. Once the runners and walkers leave campus for the half-marathon, the route is Walton to Old Perch to Avon to the Clinton River Trail to University to the Paint Creek Trail to Tienken to Brewster to Dutton to Adams and back to campus.
  • How to watch: Last year, Shane Logan won the race in 1 hour, 11 minutes, 59 seconds, which, if this year's leader follows the same pace, would put the race on Tienken Road starting at about 8:50 a.m. A map with mile markers is attached to this story.
  • Getting across town: All roads will reopen at noon. They will close and open on a rolling schedule. Everything you need to know about traffic on Brooksie Way day is here.
  • Race day news: The best way to stay updated on road closings and other race news is to follow us on Facebook. We are riding on the truck that leads the race, so we'll be able to let you know where the race is.
  • Music? Local bands, musicians, pep squads and entertainers will be stationed along the course to support and cheer on the participants.
