I Scream! You Scream! Oh, Rochester, Scream for Your Favorite Ice Cream!

Tell us your favorite local frozen dairy destination for your chance to win ice cream on Patch.

School's out for summer this week and Patch wants you and your family to start your summertime days off right.

What could be more right than ice cream?

Rochester and Rochester Hills are blessed with an abundance of ice cream eateries. Whether you're being serenaded by your servers at or diving into a Blizzard at , there's no shortage of ice cream opportunities to be had.

What Patch wants to know is, what's your favorite?

Help us find the best ice cream in town. For your votes, we will reward one lucky, random winner with a $25 gift card to whichever ice cream eatery they choose. In the meantime, we'll gauge your opinion of what's the best cool treat in Rochester and Rochester Hills.

Here's how it will work:

  • Post a comment here telling me which ice cream stop in Rochester or Rochester Hills is the best. You can be general (the name of the shop) or specific (tell us which treat you get there).
  • Please, only one entry per person.
  • All comments must be posted by midnight Wednesday to be counted for the contest.
  • One winner will be selected in a random drawing Thursday. That winner will receive an e-mail notification from me, which must be responded to within 48 hours to receive the prize.

The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official Patch contest rules; you can read them .

That's the challenge, Rochester Patch readers.

Now, give us the scoop!

We love Pacuiguo's! They are the only place that doesn't share their scoops between the flavors so its is perfect to get sorbet for our dairy allergic oldest. When its is just my husband and I, we prefer Oberweiss (maybe that's techinically Troy?). Their ice cream espresso drinks are to die for, as are their sundaes.

DQ Blizzard!

Sander's for Moosetracks or their sundae of the month. Nothing beats sitting outside on Main Street with an ice cream (especially after a long bike ride or walk) and watching the world go by!

Cook's Farm Dairy has the best ice cream-- not Rochester/Rochester Hills, BUT Rockin' Cupcakes and Antoniou's Pizza both sell Cook's!!! sooooo, what a combo, great ice cream with yummy cupcakes, or tasty pizza!!!

We love Pacuigo's-great flavors, nice to have several flavors in one order, and patient, helpful staff while you are trying to choose (there are a LOT of flavors!).
Renee Perkins June 13, 2011 at 08:26 PM
For the kids - DQ all the way! I prefer Pacuigo's though!
Michele June 13, 2011 at 08:37 PM
Baskin Robbins - a childhood favorite!! Love the variety of the pre-mixed flavors. Great value too.

Cooks' Diary in Ortonville. Cows in the back forty, probably 30 flavors of ice cream made with real cream and the BIGGEST servings ever. Yum.

Cold Stone Creamery!
Kristin Bull (Editor) June 13, 2011 at 09:00 PM
So .... sorry to disappoint all of those who have been voting for Paciugo, but we just received word that they will be closing! We are working on a story to find out more, but we confirmed in an email that the gelato shop is going to continue offering catering services but will be closed effective July 1.

so sad to hear that Paciugo is closing as they are definitely my favorite! Other than them, I would have to go with Cold Stone.

Has anyone tried Meadowbrook Dairy for ice cream? They are located on Auburn Rd. between Livernois and Adams. They have a sign out that says, "Open to the public."

Sander's, hands down! I am always surprised more people don't go there. Moosetracks is the best! But they will even make you an Ice Cream Puff and nothing beats that.
Diane June 14, 2011 at 12:57 PM
I love them all, but my vote goes to the place I've been going to since high school--The Downtown DQ!
Lisa Szappon Brady June 14, 2011 at 01:17 PM
