Girl Scouts Selling Candy, Boy Scouts Giving Out Food Drive Bags Starting Today

During last year's Scouting for Food drive, Boy Scouts in southeast Michigan collected 392,725 pounds of food.

That was enough to provide three meals a day for an entire year for 89 families of four.

This year, their aim is even higher.

Starting today, Boy Scouts will be distributing bags across town to collect canned food for the annual Scouting for Food drive, which supports Gleaners Food Bank.

The collection will be next Saturday.

If you receive a bag, fill it with canned or pantry foods, then hold onto it until next Saturday, when the scouts will stop by again to pick it up from your front porch.

Fall Candy and Nut Sale

They won't be selling cookies just yet, but the local Girl Scouts will kick off their fundraising campaign this weekend with candy and nut sales in locations across Rochester.

More than 650 Girl Scout candy and nut booths are planned throughout southeast Michigan this month; about 30 are planned in Rochester.

“A lot of people don’t know we sell candy and nuts in the fall,” said Clare Coughlin, product sales director at Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan, in a press release. “The Girl Scout year starts in early October, and participating in the fall sale is a great way for girls and troops to earn start up money for their fall and winter activities.”

Girl Scouts will be selling chocolate-covered almonds, cashews, raisins and pretzels, as well as nuts and chewy fruit slices.
