Facebook Page Solicits Help in Finding Missing Rochester Man

2 weeks after disappearance, still no signs of man's whereabouts.

As search efforts continue for a missing Rochester man, friends of the family have created a Facebook page to solicit help.

George Vanderweit, 70, went missing at about 9:20 a.m. July 5 in the area of Runyon and Dequindre. Vanderweit is 5-foot-9, 178 pounds and was last seen wearing a red shirt with "Bargains" written on the front and olive green shorts. He may be riding a lime green racing or road-style bicycle.

The Facebook page, "Help find George Vanderweit in Rochester, Mi," had 227 followers as of 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Rochester Police indicated Thursday that all search results to date have turned up negative. Police Chief Steve Schettenhelm said last week the department has received tips, but none leading to Vanderweit's whereabouts.

Vanderweit is considered by police to pose a possible danger to himself.

Those with information about Vanderweit's possible whereabouts are asked to contact Rochester Police at (248) 651-9621.
