Crooks Road Now Open, One Day Ahead of Schedule

Here's when the other road projects in Rochester and Rochester Hills will wrap up.

Crooks Road north of Hamlin to Bonnie Brae is now open in Rochester Hills. It opened one day ahead of the scheduled opening announced earlier this week by the Road Commisison for Oakland County.

This section of Crooks has been closed since mid-August as part of the ongoing widening and reconstruction of Crooks between Starr Batt Drive and Bonnie Brae. The project involves reconstruction and widening the road from predominantly three lanes to five lanes from Star Batt to the Clinton River bridge. Reconstruction only is being done from the Clinton River bridge to Bonnie Brae.

The project also included the construction of storm sewers where necessary to provide proper drainage. Pedestrian pathway gaps along Crooks were also filled in.

Crook remains reduced to one lane in each direction south of Hamlin. The project is expected to be completed by about Nov. 1, according to the RCOC.

In other construction news:

  • The Livernois bridge is scheduled to reopen on November 1.
  • Main Street in downtown Rochester is scheduled to be completed on November 23.

When will I be able to go south on Crooks to M-59?
Laura Cassar October 18, 2012 at 04:52 PM

Barbara both northbound and southbound were opened. You can do it now!

Yes, Crooks is open all the way. There is significant construction still as they finish the other "half" of the road between Star Batt and Crooks. So it'll be slow there, but open. I haven't gone through yet. Tthere may not be dedicated turn lanes so one person turning left from northbound Crooks to westbound Hamlin could back things up. Or not.

Even better news would be to get Rochester Rd open two lanes, both directions, one month in advance?
Tom DeWitte October 19, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Yes, Crooks Road IS open now but it is a bigger mess at that intersection than it has been for the past couple of months. Anyone heading north on Crooks from M59 wanting to turn left onto Hamlin (west), there is only one lane there so you now have to watch for oncoming traffic to clear before turning, so you hold up everyone behind you. If you are heading east on Hamlin from Adams Road and want to turn left onto Crooks Rd (north) then again you are going to hold up traffic behind you because it is only one there as well at the intersection. I don't think they thought that through very well unless they plan to make some changes today because last night on the way home traffic on eastbound Hamlin was backed up half way to Adams Road where before it would start backing up just east of the Lake Village of Rochester Hills apartments.

Tom--We have asked RCOC to visit the site today to make adjustments. It will still be congested in that area until the full intersection and all traffic movements are open in a few weeks. We did want to get at least one lane in either direction open as soon as possible and are working quickly to complete the rest. Thanks again for your patience. We are getting close.

Bryan - Good...glad to hear it. Thanks for responding. It is going to be really nice when it's done.

Although my son will be sad to see all his construction buddies (and their requisite machinery, barrels, and cones) go away, his Mommy will be THRILLED to be able to get from here-to-there 'normally' again! Yay, Iafrate Construction Company!

All 8 of our elected officials in Rochester Hills our guilty of this master transportation plan. • The master transportation plan and the city's master plan are the responsibilities of the Mayor (city charter). • The 7 member Rochester Hills City Council adopts goals and objectives annually. • Every year the Rochester Hills City Council endorses the Mayor's master transportation plan and the city's master plan as part of their goals and objectives. • Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council want to criss-cross our beautiful town with five lane highways and huge commercial roundabouts. • Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council want to turn our beautiful town into Warren Michigan. • If you let Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council get their way our home values will be the same as Warren Michigan. to be continued...

All 8 of our elected officials in Rochester Hills our guilty of this master transportation plan. • Tell Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council we want a Birmingham/Bloomfield residential property values. • Tell Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council we want Birmingham/Bloomfield road plans for Rochester Hills. • Tell Mayor Bryan K. Barnett and our entire City Council we don't want five lane highways in front of our historic structures like our cider mill on Avon Road. • We need to elect leaders who will tell the region if you work in Troy and live in Oakland Township take the freeway home not Livernois. • We need to elect leaders who will tell the region if you work in Auburn Hills and live in Shelby Township take the freeway home not Avon. • Known fact: A commuter will always seek the route of less resistance... If you widen Livernois or Avon all it will do is fill up with more cars. to be continued...
