Annual Memorial Day Parade Planned for Monday Morning

The parade starts at Mount Avon Cemetery in Rochester and ends at Veterans Memorial Pointe Park in Rochester Hills.

There's a parade Monday in Rochester and Rochester Hills. Here's what you need to know before you go.

Who's involved: The parade and ceremony are hosted by the cities of Rochester Hills and Rochester and are sponsored by various veterans organizations.

The starting line: Festivities begin with an opening ceremony at 9:15 a.m. at , which is located on Third Street in Rochester.

The route: The parade follows at 10 a.m. It runs along First Street, then south along Castell Street, then west along Harding Avenue to Livernois and from Livernois south to

The road closures: All of Harding Road, as well as Livernois between Harding and Drexelgate Parkway, will be closed during the parade. The intersection of Avon and Livernois will be closed, too.

The contest: Children younger than 13 may dress up to show their patriotism. Judging will be before the ceremony, at 8:30 a.m. at the cemetery. First prize for boy and girl winners will be a bike.
