An Update on Summer Road Work Around Rochester

Here's the latest on Livernois, Crooks, Main Street and now Tienken Road.

Here is an update on the major construction projects in Rochester and Rochester Hills this summer.

Avon Bridge

  • What's involved: The total replacement of the bridge over the Clinton River. All but two lanes of the bridge were closed in February 2011 when a county bridge inspection deemed the bridge in an advanced deteriorating condition.
  • Started: February.
  • Ended: June.

Livernois Bridge

  • What's involved: The total replacement of the bridge over the Clinton River. All but two lanes of the bridge have been closed since 2011 when a county bridge inspection deemed the bridge in an advanced deteriorating condition.
  • Start: July.
  • Expected end: November.
  • Detour: Avon Road to Hamlin Road to Rochester Road.

Rochester Road

  • What's involved: In a major project called the Main Street Makeover, the downtown Rochester portion of Rochester Road is being rebuilt from Second Street to University.
  • Started: April.
  • Expected end: November.
  • Detour: The road is open one lane in each direction. Second Street west of Main Street is closed.

Crooks Road

  • What's involved: The widening of the road from Starr-Batt Drive to just north of the Hamlin Road intersection from three lanes to five lanes, including a continuous center left-turn lane. Some concrete curbs and storm sewers will be added, and a pedestrian pathway will be constructed where needed to fill in gaps in the existing pathway.
  • Start: July.
  • Ending: November.
  • Detour: The most likely route to bypass Crooks Road would be Livernois Road, which also runs north-south in the city. But the two roads are under construction at the same time. The posted detour route is Avon to Adams Road.

Tienken Road in Auburn Hills

  • What's involved: The resurfacing of the road from the Rochester Hills border to Squirrel Road.
  • Start: Wednesday.
  • Ending: September.
  • Detour: Tienken to Adams to Walton to Squirrel.
