All Done, Tannenbaum: Here are Your Christmas Tree Disposal Options
Put it on the curb or take it to a drop-off site, but first remove the ornaments and lights.
Done with the Christmas decorations so soon? Unless your tree is the kind you disassemble and pack away until next year, you will need to find a way to dispose of it — and if it's dropping needles, the sooner the better. Here are your options:
Take it to the curb
In Rochester, the Department of Public Works will pick up your tree if you leave it by the curb on Mondays or Tuesdays through the week of Jan. 26.
In Rochester Hills, Republic Services will pick up trees on regular trash pickup days beginning this week and continuing through Jan. 22. The trees will be taken to a compost site.

If your tree is taller than 6 feet, you must cut it in half before you place it at the curb. If you use a plastic bag to take your tree outside, dump the tree out of the bag before you leave it at the curb.

In Rochester, trees may be taken any time to the yard waste Dumpster at the Department of Public Works' headquarters on Wilcox.
Regardless of which option you choose, remember: Don't forget to remove the bubble lights and homemade pipe cleaner ornaments.
